Empathy: Finding the universal in the personal and making the personal universal
All stories proceed through conflict. And the more complex and nuanced that conflict, the more your readers will engage emotionally in your narrative. This workshop looks at how to go about creating empathy for characters on both sides of a moral, social or political divide in a way that gets your reader seeing themselves in the enemy, and the enemy in themselves.
Bring a scene you have written which encapsulates a key conflict in your work in progress, but which you feel could do with deeper shading.
