Writing a memoir – The creative force of pain
(General, all-purpose level.)
Difficulties and trauma are the best thing that can happen to someone who wishes to write a compelling memoir: it opens new horizons that you did not know existed. Constantly, we tell ourselves stories of what is happening to us and has happened in the past. Writing the most interesting ones down in a memoir is healing but bloody difficult as well. In this workshop, we will explore the creative force of pain and the importance of living poetically.
Format: Lecture, q&a and some in-class sharing for discussion.
Advance assignment: A story from your own life / a short chapter from your memoir, ca. 400 words.
