Nordic Council Literary Prize winner

Born in Reykjavik in 1962, Sjón is a celebrated Icelandic poet and novelist. He has won the Nordic Council Literary Prize for The Blue Fox (the equivalent of the Man Booker Prize) and ‘Best Icelandic Novel’ in 2005 for The Whispering Muse. His novel From The Mouth Of The Whale was shortlisted for the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize and the IMPAC Dublin Literary Prize.

Also a lyricist, he has frequently worked with his countrywoman Björk, including writing songs for her most recent musical project, Biophilia. Sjón is the president of the Icelandic PEN Centre and the former chairman of the board of Reykjavik, UNESCO city of Literature. His novels have been translated into twenty-nine languages.

Sjón’s latest novel Moonstone – The Boy Who Never Was won “Best Icelandic Novel” in 2014 and is forthcoming in eight languages including English from Farrar, Straus & Giroux.
