Telling the truth with the help of lies
Many writers use facts as a springboard for their fiction. Others deploy research to ground their stories in a plausible reality. Most combine both strategies. Whether your factual material comes from books, the net, interviews with experts or first-hand experience, it is important to choose well, and to get the balance right. In this workshop we will look at how to incorporate facts lightly and seamlessly in your narrative, and discuss when and how to leave them behind.
Please arrive with a piece of research that you intend to incorporate into your fiction and be prepared to discuss ways in which you can deploy it.
