Huldar Breiðfjörð is an author and a screenwriter. His first novel, Góðir Íslendingar (Good Icelanders), was published it 1998. It tells the story of a young man who abandons the bars and down-town cafés in Reykjavík and sets off in mid-winter on a two month trip around the country in an old Volvo Jeep, determined to find out what it means to be Icelandic. The book was nominated for the Icelandic Literary Prize.
He has since published four more books, two based on travels in China and the Faroe Islands, and one book of poetry and prose. His latest novel, an essay collection, was published in 2019. Huldar has also written plays and film scripts, including Paris of the North and Under the Tree.
