Rúnar Helgi Vignisson is an Icelandic author and translator who has won many honors for his writing, among them The Icelandic Translation Award, The DV Cultural Prize, The Reykjavik City Prize for Translation of Children’s Books, The Booksellers’ Prize and has been nominated for the Icelandic Literary Award. Vignisson has translated books by many acclaimed American, English, South African, and Australian authors, such as Amy Tan, William Faulkner, Jhumpa Lahiri, Ian McEwan, J. M. Coetzee, and Elizabeth Jolley. He is the author of five novels and three collections of stories. His short stories and essays have been featured in Icelandic, German, Spanish, American, and Argentinian anthologies and journals. Recently, he co-edited a five volume anthology of short stories from around the world. Vignisson is currently professor of Creative Writing at the University of Iceland, where he has fostered many of the emerging Icelandic writers.
